On 4th April the Donetsk region was visited by the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, who had taken part in the opening of a Sunflower Seed processing plant, constructed by the American multinational company "Cargill".

On tentative estimations of the company, capacity of the plant will be one thousand tons of sunflower seeds per day, or three hundred thousand tons per year. This year the plant, as it is expected, will process 125 thousand tons of sunflower seeds. Total amount of the investments in this project is 50 million USD.

Realization of the given project became possible due to the Law of Ukraine " About special economic zones and special regime of investmentment activity in the Donetsk region ".

In the region of Donetsk the Council of special economic zones and special regime of investment activity approved 77 projects for the sum 625,5 million USD. From the 77 projects, 40 are projects with the participation of foreign capital.

In the opinion of Leonid Kuchma, in the Donetsk region the local bodies of authority create optimum conditions for work with the foreign investors, and the realization of the project, "Cargill" is an example, how it is necessary to work with the foreign capital in Ukraine.

High appreciation of work of the regional authorities on attracting the foreign investments in the economy of region, has been given by Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of USA Steven Piter, having noted thus the special interest of the United States of America to close cooperation with such an industrial developed region as Donbass.
